NOMINATIONS OPENED FOR 2019 CLASS OF HUMANITARIANS

IN RECOGNITION OF PROCLAIMED HOUSTON’S RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS DAY ON JULY 25TH – A CITY-WIDE DAY CELEBRATION OF HUMANITY, KINDNESS AND GIVING BACK – TEN HUMANITARIANS ARE CELEBRATED AT AN ANNUAL GALA.

NOMINATIONS OPENED FOR 2019 CLASS OF HUMANITARIANS

HOUSTON, TX – Negative news is relentless in a country filled with hateful rhetoric, natural disasters, senseless acts of crime and poverty. Through darkness comes light and the heart of Houston is beating stronger than ever. Random Act of Kindness (RAK) Day was first born out of a moment of darkness- founder, Treveia Dennis, lost two sons and a brother and thought she lost everything. Through the kindness of strangers and local organizations, their acts of kindness brought a glimpse of hope. She knew that she had to continue to spread kindness.

The first RAK Day, in 2014, was an official gathering of charities, organizations, philanthropists and volunteers giving back to their communities. Random Act of Kindness day was made an official proclaimed day on July 25th from Former Mayor Annise Parker.

Inspired by the heartfelt stories of the courageous individuals that risk their lives daily, of the tireless public servants committed to making a difference, of those whose mission and passion are to serve in their communities by helping others, RAK day had to be the platform for the unsung heroes of our city! With generous support from Houston’s Royal Sonesta Hotel and in celebration of RAK Day, the Houston Humanitarian Awards were established to recognize local heroes that exemplify kindness by giving back to their communities. The Annual Houston Humanitarian Awards honor ten individuals who have given of themselves unselfishly at a festive gala and recognized by Mayor Sylvester Turner.

2019 marks the 5th year of the Annual Houston Humanitarian Awards. We will work with local businesses and organizations to give our humanitarians what they need in an incredible season of kindness culminating July 25th

Nominations are now open and Houstonians everywhere are invited to nominate a local humanitarian through this FORM and final ten selections are made by an advisory board of past recipients, selected city council members, and participating sponsors.
